7 days bird watching in murchison falls national park

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport. Bird through Entebbe Areas

On Day 1 of 7 days bird watching in murchison falls national park, you will be met by our company representative either from a hotel or at the airport, have a short briefing about the safari and start your safari with a visit at the Uganda Wildlife Educational Center ( zoo). The zoo over  170 different bird species with 10 species of weavers. Transfer to the botanical gardens for yet another birding experience. Lunch will be served in the gardens and en-route to visit the Sewage Lagoons. Head to the booked hotel for Dinner and Night rest.

Possible bird sightings include;  weavers such as Northern Brown Throated Grosbeak, Black Necked, red bellied flycatchers, crested shrike fly cater, lead colored, swamp flycatcher. Raptures like Gabar Goshawk, small banded snake Eagle, Shikra, African Goshawk, African Hobby, Fain Tailed Widow bird, Striped, Malachite, Grey Woodpecker, Olive bellied, Red chested, Superb green throated and collard sunbirds, Lizard Buzzard, Grey Kestral, Black kite, African Paradise, Red Bellied paradise, Ashy fly catchers among others.

Day 2: Birding at Murchison Falls National Park. Drive to the top of the Falls.

Day 1 of 7 days bird watching in murchison falls national park, after breakfast starts you transfer to Uganda’s largest and oldest national park via Kampala-Luwero-Masindi. You can spot birds along the way and stop over to some birding areas. Lunch will be served in Masindi and en-route, on reaching the park drive to the top of the falls where you will spot bird life like Fishing Owl, Rock Pranticoles, Night Jars, Bat Hawk. Head to a prior booked hotel/ lodge for dinner and Night Stay.

Day 3: Birding in Murchison Falls National Park ( Budongo Forest).

on day 3 of  7 days bird watching in murchison falls national park, after a very early breakfast, meet with your guide driver carrying packed lunch and enough drinking water. Head to the forest where you will sight a number of bird species with our main focus on Puvell’s illadopsis, yellow and grey longballs other species to sight on include Dusky Long tailed cuckoo, Xavier’s, Fire Crested Alethe, yellow billed and yellow spotted barbet, Plive bellied and olive sunbird, Speckled Yellow Rumped, Brown Eared Woodpecker, yellow crested woodpecker, Ictrine, Plain and Little Greenbul among other forest birds. Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight rest.

Day 4: Bird in the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park

After breaking head out to look for water endemic species, you will have a game drive as you proceed to cross the ferry to the Delta area and spot the rare shoebill stork and other water birds. During the early morning drive spotting of nocturnal species is very high like Nightjar, Owls, Cats and other wild species. After crossing to the northern sector of the park as you drive expect to spot mammals like lions, leopard, giraffes, Oribis, Hartebeests, Elephants, Cape Buffaloes, bird species like white fronted Black Chat, African Quil Finch, Fawn Bat, Swallow Tailed  bee-eater, red throated bee-eater, Silver bird, White Browed Sparrow Weaver, Rufous Sparrow, Stanley’s Bustard,  Northern Carmine, Breasted waxbill, Vitelline masked and little weaver among others. Lunch break will be availed.

Later in the afternoon, head for a 2-hour boat ride along the Victoria Nile to the bottom of the thunderous Murchison Falls, offering you a chance to spot various species like countless bird life, hippos, crocodiles, elephants on the shores, among others. Return to the for dinner and night rest.

Day 5: Bird through the Albertine Escarpment.

Wake up to an early breakfast and start your drive to Masindi as you bird the escarpments in search of species like Spot Flanked Barbet, Striped Kingfisher, Black Billed Flanked Barbet, Black-headed Batis, Green-backed Eremomela, Yellow-bellied Hyliota, Red-winged Pytilia, Chestnut-crowned Sparrow-weaver, Cliff Chat among others. Time for a lunch break will be provided. Later check in to a booked accommodation in Masindi for dinner and night rest.

Day 6: Bird the Royal Mile.

After breakfast, you go for birding in the Royal Mile to spot Nahan’s Francolin, Cassin’s Hawk Eagle, Chocolate-backed and Dwarf Kingfisher, Narina Trogon, Brown-eared woodpecker, Red-tailed Ant Thrush, Western Black-headed Oriole, White-thighed hornbill, yellow-crested woodpecker Purple headed starling, chestnut-capped fly cater among others. Lunch break. After lunch transfer to the Busingiro sector to sight on Ituri Batis, Lemon Bellied Crombec, Tit Hylia,  Jameson’s wattle Eye, Uganda Woodland Warbler, Jameson’s wattle Eye. Head to the hotel for dinner and night rest.

Day 7: Return to Kampala, birding en-route.

Wake up to an early breakfast and transfer to Kampala birding and en-route you will spot a variety of grass birds. If you arrive in Kampala late evening, your guide will drop you at either a hotel in Kampala/Entebbe or at the airport to catch your flight back home depending on your flight schedule.
