Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pickup and transfer to Kibale National Park

On the  first  day  of 3 days  chimpanzee  trekking in kibale forest, a representative from Usoke explorers will pick you up from the airport and embark on your approximately 4-hour drive to Kibale National Park via Fort Portal-Mubende road.  Lunch will be served in Mubende, if time allows you can have a fort port town tour where you will visit the Amabere caves, Omukama’s Palace, Royal tombs and more. Along the way to the park, you will be amused by the beautiful views of the crater lakes and the Rwenzori Mountains.

Upon arrival at the park, you will take a nature walk to Bigodi swamp which is one of the best birding destinations in Uganda with some birds namely Papyrus Gonolek, Hornbills, Weaver birds, Waxbills, Kingfisher, Cuckoos, Flycatchers, great blue turaco and more. The swamps are home to several primates and other mammals like the rare Sitatunga Antelopes. Bush bucks, Mongooses, Bush pigs and Otters. Head to a booked lodge of your choice for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking

On day 3 days  chimpanzee  trekking in kibale forest, you will wake up very early in the morning and have a very heavy breakfast as you prepare for the long day of activities. Will your packed lunch, meet up with the guide driver and heat to the park headquarter also the starting point for chimp trekking, you will be divide into groups with a park ranger guide and be briefed about the rules and guidelines to follow while in the forest, You will be allocated to one of the three habituated chimpanzee families in Kibale forest and start with the search, Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale is easier compared to that of Budongo in Murchison falls National Park or Nyunger in Rwanda. You follow the hoots and calls of the chimps, that’s the only way to track their movement and know where they can be found. The search takes about 2-4 hours depending on their location and movement, on meeting them you will be allocated an hour to spend with them and watch as they feed, play, communicate, follow them as they swing from branch to branch, these primates are very mobile and do not stay on the ground like how the mountain gorillas do hence prepare to follow them. Apart from chimps, Tourists you will be exposed to 12 other primates in the forest like Grey Vervet Monkeys, Baboons, Colobus Monkeys, L’Hoests Monkeys, Grey Checked Mangabey, Blue Monkeys, Red Tailed Monkeys to mention but a few. After trek back to the park headquarters to meet up with your guide driver.

On the  same day  of  3 Days Chimpanzee Trekking Safari in Kibale Forest, Later in the afternoon, after your lunch break, head for birding on the boardwalk trail. The park guide will tell you more about the forest and the birds you sight on by name. Birding will only be done if you’re booked for chimpanzee trekking and not habituation because with it, time won’t allow.  Afterwards, head to the lodge for dinner and a night stay.

Day 3 of  3 days  chimpanzee  trekking in kibale forest, Wake up at your convenient time and have a relaxed breakfast while enjoying the lodge environment, after head for a community visit before starting the journey back to Kampala in the middle of the day. A visit to the local community offers tourists a chance to engage and experience African-like things through their customs and cultural heritage. This activity is guided by those that know the local people best, you will visit either one of the local families or walk through the village where you will learn about their survival, day to day activities and their history, you can visit churches, schools, and taste on the locally cooked local foods. After the village tour, drive to Kampala, where lunch will be served along the way and continue with the drive to Kampala.
