2-Days Gorilla Trekking from Kigali or Kisoro

This 3-day short gorilla trekking safari takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home of 50% of the remaining endangered mountain gorillas which live in the park’s thick forest, Bwindi Impenetrable forest, it is very thick to an extent that it has to be cleared every day for tourists to pass through and because of its thickness it is referred to as Africa’s true jungle. Bwindi National Park has 12 habituated mountain gorilla family groups, you will be able to trek one of the 12 families and other primates in the park to trek are red-tailed monkeys, chimpanzees, baboons, black and white colobus monkeys which can be spotted during gorilla trekking.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is also home to other wildlife species that can be spotted during game drive namely elephants, duikers, buffaloes, golden cats, bush pigs, yellow backed duiker, clawless otter, civet, chameleons, geckos, frogs, chameleons and more. While gorilla trekking tourists will also spot and learn about the forest’s vegetation, it has over 163 different tree species, 104 fern species, 1000 flowering plants.

Day 1: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable Park

Very early in the morning you will be picked up by our company representative from a hotel in Kampala or at Entebbe International Airport, you will be briefed on how the safari will run and commence with your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in south western Uganda via Masaka-Mbarara highway. The first stop over will be in Masaka at the Equator, an imaginary line that divided the world into two hemispheres, you will carry out some experiments and take as many photos as you want. Another stop in Mbarara town for a lunch break. After embarking on the journey straight to the park arriving in the afternoon, check in at the lodge of your choice, relax for the rest of the day, have dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

On this day, you will be required to wake up very early than usual, have breakfast, you guide driver will pick you up and head to the park headquarters with your packed lunch for briefing about the guide lines to follow while in the forest, you will be divided in groups of 8 persons and start the adventure you have been longing for. The search for gorillas takes about 2-8 hours of trekking depending on where the gorillas hosted their previous night and their movement, get ready to get dirty while walking long distances in muddy and steep environment hence requires you to have a walking stick which are hired at the park HQ. On meeting these endangered mountain species, you will be given a full hour to spend with them in their natural home. Mountain gorillas can’t survive anywhere outside their natural. Meeting the mountain gorillas is a very rewarding and memorable experience of a lifetime, you will watch them feed, play, breastfeed, jump from branch to branch among others.

After trekking, hike slowly back to the park headquarters where you will be rewarded trekking certified to justify your participation in the supporting and funding the conservation of these highly endangered species. Meet with your driver and head to the lodge to freshen up. After opt for either resting and enjoying the lodge service or go for a cultural encounter in the Batwa Pygmy’s community where you will learn more about their culture through cultural dance, local folk songs, storytelling, and taste on their local food, if interested, note that the activity is only led by people who know the locals best. After a long day of adventure and wonders, head back to the lounge for dinner and a night stay.

Day 3: Return to Kampala

This day makes it the last day of your gorilla trekking safari, and you will be required to wake up for breakfast as you enjoy the lodge’s environment, after checking out the lodge and starting your journey to Kampala as you say your goodbyes to southwestern Uganda and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. you will have a stopover in Mbarara for a lunch break and another stop at Mpambire drum maker’s point and a craft shop to see where drums are locally made so you can support them by getting yourself a gift from Africa and for your loved ones back home. Proceed to Kampala where your guide driver will either drop you off at a hotel in Kampala/Entebbe or at Entebbe International Airport to catch a flight back home depending on your flight schedule.
