This 2 Days Birding Tour in Mabamba takes you to Entebbe and Mabamba wetlands to watch the rare shoebill storks at close range and a variety of other bird species. Mabamba wetland is located west of Entebbe on the northern shores of Lake Victoria, it has an area coverage of 2424 ha with a coverage of thick marshes of papyrus, water lilies and a variety of other wetland grasses. The site is an important birding area (IBA) with over 300 bird species including many globally threatened species.
Mabamba is the second-best place in Africa where the elusive shoebill stork can be easily spotted at anytime of the day after Murchison Falls National Park. there are a number of other bird species to spot on this safari including Great White Pelican, Green Cuckoo, Grey-crowned crane, Pied Wagtail, Swamp Flycatcher, Blue-cheeked Bee-eater, Black-crowned waxbill, African Marsh Harrier, African Pigmy Goose, among others.

Detailed Itinerary: 2 Days Birding Tour in Mabamba
Day 1: Birding in Entebbe’s UWEC and the Botanical Gardens
Day 1 of 2 Days Birding Tour in Mabamba, our Company representative will pick you up from the airport/ hotel/ residence in Entebbe or Kampala after breakfast. You will be given a warm welcome and briefing about the safari and transfer to UWEC home of a number of wildlife and a variety of bird species like rare Northern weaver, orange weaver, Kingfishers, sunbirds among others. Later have lunch served.
After lunch (or picnic lunch at the gardens) drive to Entebbe Botanical Gardens for good hours of birding on one of the best birding trails around Kampala. Possible sightings include Great Blue, Ross’s Turaco, Red Chested, Great Reed Warbler, Black Bishop, Grey woodpecker, Copper among others. Later in the evening return to your accommodation for dinner and Overnight rest.

Day 2: Birding in Mabamba Shoebill & Search for Shoebill Storks
Day 2 of 2 Days Birding Tour in Mabamba, your driver will pick up from your residence/hotel after a heavy breakfast, start your journey to Mabamba wetland to watch the rare shoebill stork and other bird species like red cap, white winged warbler, Banded snake eagle among others. Along the way to the swamp you will spot a number of birds in fields, gardens, bushlands etc. On arriving at the bay, your boat man will be waiting to get on the wooden boat and commence your search for the shoebill stock because it’s the pivotal reason for the trip, navigate the water trails as you spot other bird species. Shoebills are more activities in morning hours as they stand still waiting for their favorite meal, the lungfish, to cross and grab it for a morning meal. On meeting the bird, you will get rewarding sightings and photos of it as you approach slowly to where it is standing still waiting for lunch fish to grab it wot hot shoe shaped powerful beak hence its name shoebill stork. You will watch it for as long as you want as it is stationary standing focusing on getting a meal. After a long day of rewarding views of the birds, head back to the dock to meet your driver and he will drop you off at your destination either at the hotel in Entebbe / Kampala or at the airport to catch your flight back home.
