1 day  mabamba swamp shoebill watching: Mabamba Swamp is habitant to endangered Shoebill stocks. The swamp is located in northwestern part of Entebbe Peninsula at the edge of Lake Victoria. The swamp is listed among the 33 most important birding areas in Uganda by Ramsar and it is listed as a wetland of international importance. The swamp is the best place to spot these rare species by birding enthusiasts. The shallow waters of the swamp that are covered with water lilies, papyrus, ferns and many other grasses are a habitant to these rare Shoebill storks and over 260 other water birds like Blue Swallow, Papyrus gonolek, cattle egret, Malachite kingfisher, African jacana, Black kite, Black-winged stilt, wood sandpiper and other migratory species from Europe and the rest of the world. The chances of watching the shoebill at Mabamba Swamp are very high.

Day 1: Shoebill Watching at Mabamba

Our company representative will pick you up from your location after breakfast, your required to carry packed lunch. The guide will introduce itself and brief you about the safari and commence your one-hour drive to mabamba Bay, Bird species will be spotted along the way in fields, gardens, Bush lands and more a stopover can be provided but you take long to reach the Swamp.

Upon arrival at the Bay, a boat man and site guide will be waiting for your arrival, get on the canoes/ wooden boat and start your cruise in search of the shoebill because it’s the top priority and main reason for the trip, you will explore the water channels and ways looking for the bird. The bird is more active in the morning looking for lungfish for breakfast, while on the search it stands still for some time waiting for the fish to cross, when the fish crosses it catches it with its powerful beak shaped in the shoe shape hence its name. Up on encounter with it you will get easy and rewarding sightings of the bird, you will approach slowly to where it is since it stands stationary preoccupied with waiting for the lungfish. After spotting the bird we will laze around watching other bird species in the swamp. After a long day of watching birds, head back and meet you guide driver and transfer back to your destination in Kampala/Entebbe.
